Bright Moments at El-Roi Baby Home

Take a look at the Genesis El-Roi Baby Home stand-out moments for March 2024

We are towards the end of the third month, first month of our financial year and last month of the financial year of the department of Social Development. It has been an amazing and busy month with so many visitors at the baby home. It is so good to have volunteers getting involved in helping at the baby home, and we were so blessed to have students doing their practice. Our centre was full of life though children had a change of season session with stomach bug, and we are so grateful with the help given by the department of Health.

Baby Report

Currently we have 17 babies at the baby Home, 7 boys and 10 girls. There are 5 new babies admitted this Month, 3 siblings from uMzinto DSD and 2 siblings from Kokstad DSD. All the children were removed from their families because they were deliberately neglected by their parents. Most of our babies had runny tummies and fever, the Clinic staff came to treat them, and they were all given vitamin A drops, Glucose powders and multivitamin syrup for their appetite.

Social workers attended Zoom Training on Child sexual abuse which was presented by Dr. Sagie Naidoo who is a Deputy Director for Clinical Forensic Medical services from KZN DOH. The purpose of the training was to give an overview of the Medical Management of Child Sexual Abuse, medical assessment, the goals of medical assessment, and requirements for the assessment. 4 cases reviewed, with case managers from Vulamehlo DSD, Vulamehlo Child welfare, Child welfare Margate, and uMzinto DSD. Held a case conference with one of our baby’s case manager and the biological mother.
