How we approached Spiritual Engagement this Month

The team prayed with one of the clients who was on preparations for her late husband’s unveiling ceremony and a week later she passed away peacefully, the weekend that was supposed to be the ceremony turned out to be her funeral service. The family received spiritual counselling.

Family spiritual counselling was rendered to this family because the client’s children turned out to be misled by the evil spirits due to unemployment stressful living conditions.

Norway bible school team gave out little bible booklets to clients and families especially children who were very excited to receive the gifts. Singing and praying was done mostly for all home visits.

Our Plan of Action:

To talk more about Jesus’s love and His’ coming back, share bible verse and gospel booklets handouts, encourage community prayer groups.

Psycho-social Assistance/Counselling:

Several clients live in informal dwellings that needs the ward counsellors’ attention;the team has tried to bring it up with them but till present it’s up to no vail.

Assistance with grant applications is going on well, clients are guided to SASSA forfurther assistance. The following was rendered to some clients:

• HIV prevention

• Drug readiness/Drug adherence.

• Nutritional Counselling and other.

Health Education:

Health education is rendered mostly to every household that the team visits daily as it is the foundation of every patient could be in-house or in hospital.

March was the National TB awareness month; the team made it a point that with every home/community visit they render the service which is the continuation of daily health services.

General health education and healthy living is rendered with every client visit.

Nutritional counselling, not everybody can afford to follow the daily nutritional menu, but they are encouraged to have one proper meal and drink 8 glasses of waterper day (preferable breakfast).

Our Achievements in Health Education this Month

Most clients know:

Their treatment, what is it for and how to take it.

o The Side effects of their treatments/medication.

o Their Primary home-based treatment supporters.

Our Plan of Action To try and get instant porridge donation to make up the breakfast meal so to be able to give out medication to boost the stamin as breakfast is the basic meal to start the day.

Our Assessment of the current Family Support Needs

Family Support: Two female clients are discharged into the Old Age Home because they were emotional abused by their families, especially when it comes to their Old Age government pension.

o Family counselling sessions were conducted with the family members who saw the need for apologising. They visited their loved ones at the Old Aged Home and there is slight improvement noticed with this need.

Rehabilitation:

o Two female amputees have received wheelchairs to help them moving around the homes and when going out. The physio exercises are going on with seven clients whom most of them are diabetics.

o One client received walking lessons on visit, the following day she was walking with the walking ring without any human support.

Medical- Challenges

o Patient’s insight of illness. This is due to insufficient medical information from the health care service providers this stretches to family’s and primary carer’s insight of the patient’s illness.

o Lack of treatment supporters for immobile and home bound clients.

o Wound care clients who miss their appointments with the hope that the GHCC team will save them. The Clinic checkups are important.

o Some clients don’t come back with full written report from their follow up appointments which then needs the team to go back to the point of treatment.

Achievements:

o Out of eight wound care clients three are healing and they are on the discharge waiting list for the month of April.

o Less number of clients are sent to IALH for treatment due to the team’s commitment in taking good care of their medical conditions.

o Good nutrition-through continuous health education, gardening emphasis and provision of food parcels more clients are having healthy diet and well-nourished.

Our goal is to make sure that our clients receive the best quality of treatment they deserve to make them get better and be their selves again, but we put everything in God’s hands in prayer.

A few General Updates

Visitation by the Lake Point Team was blessing to the clients, families, and the Community Care Team as well.

Having given out cabbage and beetroot to one client was an answer for her prayer she prayed the previous night where she was craving for the cabbage but had no means (financially as she is waiting for DG pay outs) to get it. “She told the team “And thanked the organisation.

Lake Point team blessed each GHCC team member with a pair of walking shoes.
