An Exciting June with the Barstow Team - Wave of Hope

We had such a busy time for the month of June with hosting the Barstow team and all the travelling that had been happening for our ministry. All this came as a blessing to our surf ministry.

This month we had the privilege of hosting the Barstow team and engaging together in our weekly programs. This loving and caring team had a chance to lead our bible study group, sharing their testimonies, encouraging the children to love the Lord. Over the weekend the Barstow team spent their time engaging with the children at the beach and helping with lunch. Not forgetting to mention their good gifts for our children and coaches. They had prepared gift bags with some surfboard wax, sweaters (for all the children to stay warm after a good surf), sun-glasses and two packs of socks.

Our trip to Jefferys Bay was to attend the National Camp Hosted by Christian Surfers. I had the privilege to bring along our assistance coaches Kwanele and Samkelo as they stepping up into leadership for our surf ministry. The experience for the camp wasvery inspiring as the word was shared and good stories were shared from different ministry leaders. It was a great opportunity for us to be part of the camp as we also had a chance to reunite with our friends and form even more relationships with other sport ministries within the country and international.

Our ministry had the opportunity to work along with Christian surfers in the Ballito Pro Surf Event. It is always a great idea to have our ministry in the mix of what is happening in the surfing industry and this comes as an opportunity for our surf ministry to serve God’s people and form relationships. Five of our surfers were part of the tag team in the same event that Kwanele and Samkelo are working in.

Challenges we experienced this month

Some of our lunch crew volunteers had not been so active in helping with lunch for this month. We had only two people sponsoring lunch for June.

Surfing conditions had been very challenging and the water is mostly cold as we in winter season.

We had great opportunity to fundraise as Wave of Hope but this could come as a challenge since we haven’t done anything like this before. We will be selling branded clothing items with Genesis and Wave of hope.
