A busy month for Murchison Community Centre

June has been a busy month for us at Murchison Community Centre, from different teams visiting our ministry to hosting our grand annual Holiday bible club. We had the time of our lives, experiencing the presence of God in so many ways.

Afternoon Activities

We spent the beginning of June welcoming our friends from Barstow and had a pre-holiday bible club with them the whole week, they shared some of their VBS programs that would help us in our HBC. Afterwards we began Bible studies based on our theme “the Armor of God” It was fun to see the children interacting so well with the team

A week after they left, we connected and there was a video of a 6-year-old boy who was having a full-blown conversation with Grant and they could actually understand each other, the video was captured “LOVE IS A UNIRVESRAL LANGUAGE” This tells us that what we are doing in the community is bigger than us and it speaks to masses. They were just so emotionally invested and so intentional in their one week stay with us that it was a bit hard when we said our goodbyes

Our dance coach Sbu had the whole month off, so he dedicated this time to focusing on nurturing the dance team that he had and started training the 6–10-year-old expanding his team

Our holiday programs have gone on smoothly with games and bible studies, slowly moving towards the reopening of schools. We are now also infusing talks on bullying and hygiene to help their minds be ready for school again.

Holiday bible club 2024

We had one of the most successful holiday bible club during the month of June. Our theme was “the Armor of God” and we had bible stories, crafts and game around the theme. From the training that we had as the Genesis staff and the MK’S, we felt so much at ease knowing that our God, the author of our lives, has got everything covered, we just have to avail ourselves so He can work through us.

The week went by so smoothly because everyone knew where they were placed and what they would be doing there. A shout out to Jena and her volunteers, who made sure that our lunches are ready for our kids, volunteers and staff every afternoon

It also helped having a debrief with the whole HBC team everyday after lunch, getting so much positive feedback before ending the days makes one motivated to tackle the next day. Although energy levels were low on the third day, we made it work and we never gave in. We are super grateful for our friends at Tidy towns for sponsoring us with bananas and our favourite uncle Pat from Food for life for biriyani.

Go-hungry

We are happy to report that our daily feeding program is still a blessing to so many children. We have had a high number the whole month, ranging from 180 to 210 each afternoon. Morvite is nutritious and the kids love it, but it is served cold, during winter this because a little challenging but we must thank the Lord for what we have and just pray for more (warm meals for the season). But we are still very grateful for the people that God has brought into our ministry who make the feeding program an ongoing success.

Outreach

In the mist of our busy month, we were delighted to have a few evangelism days with the MK2MK team. It is so encouraging to see them interact with the community in such a deep and intentional level. We are excited for the schools to reopen; we have bigger and better plans going forward

We are very excited for the future of MCC and very happy to welcome Lee-Anne and the Blue Elevator interns to the team. Our ministry aims to provide a safe and nurturing environment where children can grow in their faith and relationship with God, and we believe that we are just going to keep on growing from strength to strength.
