Genesis Community Care February 2024 In Review

OUR GOAL

To have more clients who are compliant with their medication and clinic/hospital appointments.

GENERAL UPDATES

Visitation by the French Team was seen as a blessing by the clients, families, and the Community Care Team as well.

Kornelius and his parents were touched by the poor living conditions of a diabetic blind female client. The client’s bedroom has been fixed and looks better than before and she is happy as well as the family

On the 27th of February the Genesis Community Team had a one hour In-Service Training on “How to make a Memory Box”. This is to help clients to store their valuables or written memories.

As of the 1st February, the Community Care Team was joined by Zilondile Gloria Ngcobo who is rotating between the two teams.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THIS MONTH

More compliance: Transportation of patients has made it easy for our clients to reach their medical collection points.

Less Hospital Admissions: Due to early detection, management, support and referral to appropriate clinics or hospitals most of our clients are treated as out-patients.

Through continuous health education, gardening emphasis and provision of food parcels more clients have a healthy diet and are well-nourished.

DONATIONS

We received food donations from Food Forward which were mainly vegetables. We received another food donation from Creston College learners, which was mainly canned foods. Clothing donations were received from individual donors who wanted to remain anonymous.

SPIRITUAL ENGAGEMENT

No one has given their life to Jesus as yet, but the gospel of salvation has been shared through singing and praying with each family on our home visits. With the hope that one day those that have not surrendered, they will before it’s too late.

Sometimes it is not easy to accept that your children have turned back to worship the creation instead of the Creator, but this is happening with one of the clients. We believe that the team’s prayer intervention will solve the problem.

PLAN OF ACTION:

To share Bible stories and pray, as well as sharing testimonies from other clients’ or families while keeping their anonymity.

HEALTH EDUCATION

Health education is rendered mostly to every household that the team visits daily as it is the foundation of every patient could be in-house or in hospital.

  • General health education and healthy living is rendered with every client visit.

  • Nutritional counselling, not everybody can afford follow the daily nutritional menu, but they are encouraged to at least try to have one day proper meals and drink more water.

  • Plan of Action: To ask for more seedlings to give out to our poor struggling communities and encourage them to share with those who cannot do it themselves.

  • The challenge with gardening is the scarcity of water and that most of the daily used vegetables are out of season. No seedlings available.

Assessment of Emotional support needs for the newly diagnosed clients.

FAMILY SUPPORT

This has been noted with many families although some are still holding on the past and feeling good in supporting the sick family members. The team is working on this on everyday visit.

REHABILITATION

One client has been discharged from the hospital physiotherapy program and she is now receiving the exercises twice a week from the team.

Twelve clients were attended to this month according to their needs.

MEDICAL CHALLENGES

Poor pain tolerance & Chronic Pain:

Same area clients wanting/choosing to have the same appointment dates, to go as a group.

Loss of hope- Feeling hopeless due to recurring Cancer symptoms

Team is more supportive and encourage good behaviour to the revolving door syndrome elderly client.
