Reading Room
Reading room is a place where school going children and youth can come and have a safe place to do their homework and read.
The reading room aims to create a love for reading and learning in the children, and to share the love of Jesus through bible stories and by being an example in the way we live.
The reading room is currently open at the Murchison Community Centre twice a week in the afternoons, and will soon be opening in the new Genesis Community centre.
Each reading room is supervised by young adults, who encourage the children and teenagers with their homework, studies, and provide alternative educational activities for participants. Bible studies are conducted regularly and the children are encouraged to live by biblical principals.
The Reading room requires appropriate educational toys, books and DVD’s, and donations thereof will be much appreciated.
With the wonderful growth in Reading Room over the past few months, we have seen a great need for the older girls, to do something. Letitia and Phililie have started an outreach group with the teenage girls. Girls from Grade 4 and up meet every Wednesday after school for an afternoon of friendship and crafting. The first group of 7 girls met on 15/09/2010 and based on the group almost tripling in size the following week, the concept was clearly welcome. Aside from the fun and stimulation of crafting, the object of the group is to grow in Christ and to build meaningful relationships with one another that could impact positively on the lives of impressionable teenage girls, especially during times when their faith and values will be challenged by social pressures. The girls chose a name for their new group and the “Angels” as they are now known, are a delightful reflection of the wonderful creativity of an awesome God!.
